Individual Report

Johannes Speicher [INDI. Id: I5572]

Schpeicher, Johann 1814 Zamosc/Lublin/Dutchy of Warsaw Russia 634 5434271 with wife Gertrude Profession "tenant" moved to Russia according to Hopf1

The couple moved on from Sitaniec without children and came to Krasna. The Krasna baptismal register records the birth of a daughter to the couple:

No. 235 *3.12.1819 Marianna Szpaycher (Speicher) Parents: Johannes Szpaycher and Gertrud (Gertrude) Szpaycher (Speicher)

According to Alois Speicher, there was a son Michael *1814 before the arrival in Krasna.

Johannes is listed by Ted Becker as the first settler in Krasna next to Michael Speicher *1794 (# 113, 114). He appears as godfather in the baptismal register of the first years. The baptism entry of his daughter Marianna in 1819 is his last entry.

He no longer appears in the 1835 census.

Johann's parents could not (yet) be identified.

The statement that Johann Speicher was born in 1785 and that Michael Speicher was his father is based solely on the ambiguous spelling in the parish register and the assertion by Alois Speicher. We do not have any evidence.

RESEARCHER Alois Speicher, Neuwied, Germany.
There is an entry in the church records: Joannes, son of Michael Szpeygier (Speicher), colonist, & his wife Magdalena Suheynn (Söhn?), baptized 18 October 1785.
SOURCE: Church records of Sitaniec; Microfilm #753420);

The only person who could come into consideration, according to the church register of Sitaniec, is2:

Szprygier Jan liber 1785 O: Michal, M: Magdalena zd. Fulleynr, kolonisci niemieccy; Sitaniec.

However, this is more likely to be the Sprenger family of colonists, as the name Speicher is usually translated in this medium as Szpraycher, Szpeicher, Szpaycher, Szpajcher, Szpeycher.

In Sitaniec there was the private settler Michael Sprenger, kolonisci niemieccy; Sitaniec.

Michael Sprenger from Trippstadt *1758 three persons are documented on 27.06.1784 (WK 200/8) in Vienna. He is also listed in the settlement contract as a settler of Sitaniec.

According to the church register Sitaniec

Mikal Szpringier Died: 12 October 1811 in Sitaniec (Michael Sprenger) Age at Death: 53 years

A birth of Johann Speicher *1785 was not found in the church register of Sitaniec.

Neither was his marriage, which according to Alois Speicher is said to have taken place in 1812.

According to the available data, there is no colonist Michael Speicher in Sitaniec, neither in the list of settlers nor in the transport list in Vienna.

Such a person would have to have been born in Germany before 1780. A matching Michael Speicher was not found in the Püttlingen family register.

Apart from Michael Speicher 6 pers. to Galicia 1783 WK 183/72 there is no reference to Michael Speicher. This Michael had no sons and according to the book about Falkenberg/Galicia he died there. (Sepp Müller "Falkenberg - Ein Deutsches Dorf in Galizien, Göttingen 1963"). His stay in Sitaniec can therefore be ruled out.

Conclusion: We can probably deny that Michael was Johann's father.

Johann could be a son of all three immigrants Speicher (Johann, Nikolaus, Georg), but born later.

According to the church register of Sitaniec, Speicher was born in the clan in 1785:

Both died in the same year. These parents can therefore hardly have had another son Johann in this year. Their brother Georg Speicher was not in Sitaniec until 1788/89.

It must therefore be Johann Speicher, born later in Sitaniec, who moved on,3 but there are no church register entries for 1789-1809.

The following statements also indicate that the onward migrant was born later:

In subsequent compilations by Ted Becker a Johann Speicher *1793 is given.

According to Alois Speicher, Johann is said to have had a son Michael.

Speicher, Michael 30 Aug 1814 13 May 1875 Johannes Speicher

Could child Michael *1851 belong to this family?

A year earlier she had another daughter and could Michael *1814 be a son of Michael *1795?

Only Michael of Georg appears in the baptismal register until 1837.

3 It cannot be completely ruled out that Johann Speicher *1750 was the person who moved on, if he had been married for a second time to a Gertrude.
