Individual Report

The Hartmann family

Although the Hartmann family is not one of the largest families in Krasna in terms of numbers, members of it were married to a number of people from Krasna families.

Fritz Hartmann from Langendernbach[1] is the oldest person of this clan known to us so far.

On page 11 of the baptismal register 1 of Frickhofen the following entry was found: Langendernbach: July 25, 1713 baptized a young son Fritz ...illegible... and Anna Maria. This could be Fritz Hartmann, as he would have been about 23 years old in 1736, if one calculates back from his marriage date. No other child with the first name Fritz can be found between 1700 and 1720.

In the marriage register of Frickhofen page 36 it says: Langendernbach May 17, 1736 Fritz Hartmann was copulated with Anna Maria Hulp. Older ancestors could not be found.

The couple had a total of 10 children. The sons Philipp * 01.08.1749 and Peter *26.10.1752 Hartmann emigrated to South Prussia. They lived with their families in Orzechewo.

Further information on the emigration to Orzechowo can be found at "Die Wanderschulzen Mathias Müller und Peter Becker".

Philipp Hartmann

Church register of Frickhofen: On August 1, 1749, Friedrich Hartmann and his wife Anna Maria, née Hulp from Langendernbach, have a boy baptized with the name Philipp.

Philipp Hartmann married on 12.06.1787 A. Maria Heftrich[2], he emigrated with his family (a total of five people) to South Prussia in 1799.

His emigration to South Prussia is documented:

Peter Hartmann

Church register of Frickhofen: On October 10, 1751 Friedrich Hartmann and his wife Anna Catharina, née Hulp from Langendernbach have a boy baptized with the name Peter. He must have died immediately, because there is a second Peter in 1752.

Baptismal register 2 Frickhofen: S 3 Langendernbach 26. Oktober 1752 Friedrich (no surname given) and Anna Maria Hulp had a young son baptized: Petrus.

Hartmann, Peter, * 26.10.1752 Langendernbach/ Spouse Jölich, A. Kathar., 47 J., emigrated with his family (a total of 9 people, including seven children) to South Prussia in 1799.

His emigration to South Prussia is documented:

Onward migration from Poland to Krasna

Some of the members of both families moved on to Krasna in 1814. It is uncertain whether Philipp and Peter or one of them still came with them to Krasna. At over 60 years of age in 1814, they were already very old by the standards of the time. But descendants of both of them can be found in Krasna.

You can read about the onward migration from Poland to Krasna at "Die Wanderschulzen Mathias Müller und Peter Becker".

We have some information from the church register for Orzechowo about marriages, births, godparenthoods. In Orzechowo and later also in Krasna the families Becker, Dressler, Hein, Müller, Heidrich, Hartmann, Wagner married among themselves.

The following people immigrated to South Prussia from Germany:

Where were the children?

  1. There were four marriages of Hartmann children in Orzechowo. All four couples came to Krasna with their children, who were still alive in 1814.
  2. Single came to Krasna:
  3. Details on these two groups can be found in the OFD Krasna.

  4. The following children did not go to Krasna:

  1. Langendernbach is located on the eastern slope of the Westerwald, around 17 kilometers north of the district town of Limburg an der Lahn. In natural terms, Langendernbach is still part of the Upper Westerwald, more precisely the Oberwesterwälder Kuppenland, but is located in the transition to the high Westerwald.
Around 1100, Langendernbach belonged to the lordship of Diez. In the 14th century, they pledged Frickhofen, among other things, to the Counts of Nassau-Hadamar. Together with the parish of Frickhofen, Langendernbach came to the Counts of Nassau-Dillenburg in the 15th century.
Around 1570, Langendernbach became Lutheran, later Calvinist and then Catholic again in 1629.
The soldiers of the Thirty Years' War plundered the entire village, so that by the end of the war only around 20 families were still living in Langendernbach.
In 1739, the village came to Nassau-Orange.
In 1789, Langendernbach was considered one of the poorest places in the Westerwald. This was certainly one reason for the Hartmanns' emigration to Orzechowo in Poland (then South Prussia). From there, individual family members moved on to Krasna in Bessarabia in 1814.
  2. It cannot be completely ruled out that he was married in his first marriage to Größchen A. Maria and that both his wife and their five children died prematurely. Only the three children mentioned emigrated with him.
