Individual Report

Theodore (Ted) Joseph Becker

For Ted J. Becker, Krasna in Bessarabia was not only the birthplace of his great-grandparents Tschischmak and Harsche on the Black Sea, today Ukraine, for Ted this place became a purpose in life.

Even before 1989, Ted had already developed the ambition to collect all the personal data of the inhabitants of this Catholic community. Even then, the data was recorded on a PC. Until 2009 together with Rosemary Ann (Ternes) Mack.

Ted collected all the data that could be obtained anywhere in the world. This central collection function was supported by many interested parties, because Ted was always happy to provide qualified information on requested family branches.

Ted was a recognized institution worldwide for family research on Krasna in Bessarabia.

This hobby was also expensive.

He traveled to the archives of Odessa, Ismail and Bucharest.

He bought copies of church records.

He donated a photocopier to the archives in Ismail, Moldavia. So that they could make copies of baptismal registers for him.

Until 1918, the church registers were written in Cyrillic handwriting in Russian. He paid a person to do the transcription.

A link to our common roots

Without the work of Ted J. Becker, we would not have the quantity and quality of Krasna's data today.

This data is the bracket for many young people who are looking for information about their roots.

We people with Krasna ancestry can consider ourselves lucky to be able to use this data to discover our relationship to other people with Krasna ancestry.

It is to Ted's great credit that this kinship link is not lost in this day and age.

We are many:
