Kaspar Bachmeier attended school in Krasna, then the religious grammar school of the School Brothers in Bucharest. This was followed by studies in Catholic theology in Freiburg, Germany, among others, his dissertation and ordination to the priesthood. He worked in various parishes in the diocese of Jassy (Romania) and taught for many years at the local seminary, where he was vice-rector.
He accepted the considerable difficulties during the period of communist rule after the war until his death and refused to be loyal to the state. In the early 1960s, he was allowed to visit his mother and siblings in Germany, but could not be persuaded to stay and continued to face up to his responsibilities in Jassy.
He was popular and revered by the people of Jassy. A burial place was erected for him in Jassy, similar to that of the bishops buried there.
Those close to him in Jassy and Constanta suspected that the Romanian Securitate, which is said to have warned him about the trip, was responsible for his death. Prof. Dr. Bachmeier could not be stopped in any other way on his way to Rome.
